The Merrill Fire Department further explained their closure of Station #2 at their public informational meeting last night.
While the meeting was previously scheduled, it came on the heels of the department closing their second station for a day. With two members out, the staffing was down to 5, rather than the usual 7.
Presenters raised concerns, if a situation arose where they received multiple calls at one time. Earlier this year, the department EMS was called out multiple times with in an hour. The Merrill area does receive mutual aide from surrounding fire departments and Tomahawk EMS.
More than 40 residents attended the informational meeting.
A further statement from the city’s personnel and finance committee is expected later today.
