As part of their participation in the Solarwise for School’s program Lakeland’s School district will hold a dedication of new solar panels coupled with a renewable energy fair.
Earlier this year the district announced joining the program run with Wisconsin Public Service. Nearly three quarters of the high schools in the region participate in the program.
The new solar panels complement existing environmental science courses. The 10 hidden photovoltaic panels are each about 6 square feet. They will provide the power for three class rooms in the school.
In addition to the panels and new curriculum, participating schools are invited to a Solar Olympics competition held in Oshkosh each spring.
The funding for the program comes from voluntary contributions from about 2,700 WPS customers.
