Northwoods residents will be able to get down and dirty for a good cause today.
The UW Agriculture Research Station in Starks, just east of Rhinelander, will be holding a potato picking event today from 4:30 to 7:00.
Activities include opportunities to pick potatoes for area food pantries, and to collect a small sample of potatoes to take home. There will also be opportunities to learn about research conducted by the UW College of Agricultural and Life Sciences here in the Northwoods.
Potatoes picked for the food pantries will be distributed in Rhinelander and other North Central Wisconsin communities. In addition, guests are welcome to bring a small bag, bucket, basket or container to gather a small sample from many different types of potatoes. Light refreshments will be available along with a campfire in the field.
The station is located 6.5 miles east of the Rhinelander Ice Arena, on Cty Hwy C. Directional signs will be posted approaching Rominsky Road. Everyone is welcome at the event from 4:30 to 7.
