Oneida County will once again be having a prescription drug drop off.
Area law enforcement agencies throughout the county will be conducting the drop-offs. This is the fifth National Take Back Initiative. Last April, Americans turned in 276 tons of prescription drugs. The nationwide total for the past 5 years is more than 1.5 million pounds.
They say the initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends.
The Drop-offs will be held tomorrow in Oneida County include the Rhinelander Police Department, Three Lakes Town Hall and the Nokomis Fire Department from 10am until 2pm. The Minocqua Police Department will sponsor a collection site at the Marshfield Clinic Pharmacy from 9 until 1.
Lincoln County has a year round drop off available in the Merrill Police Department, which is open from 8-4 Mondays through Fridays.
