The Lincoln County Suicide Prevention Task Force will be holding a walk to bring awareness to mental health issues.
The 1st annual “Shed Some Light on Mental Health Walk” will take place tomorrow morning at Normal Park in Merrill. Following the 2 mile walk; there will be refreshments, music and informational booths by local agencies.
Debbie Merkel, an organizer of the event says, “Suicide awareness in our communities is essential for people of all ages.” She added, “The walk is a chance for people to learn about mental health, recognize signs of suicide and remember those we’ve lost.”
According to the Burden of Suicide in Wisconsin, Lincoln County had 29 reported suicides the past five years.
The registration begins at 8:30 at Normal Park, no pre-registration is required. The event will begin after a brief ceremony. For more information you can contact the Lincoln County Health Department.
