Nicolet College has landed a second substantial grant to further develop its manufacturing training program.
The 3 year grant totaling more than a half million dollars comes from the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training initiative. The funds are part of a $2 billion, 4 year initiative from the US Dept. of Labor promoting skill development and employment opportunities.
Nicolet is expected to purchase advanced manufacturing training equipment and hire an instructor to teach students how to use that equipment and an adviser to keep them on track academically.
Nicolet College President Elizabeth Burmaster says, “This will benefit residents seeking the skills necessary to secure good paying jobs and area manufactures who depend on talented workers to make their operations efficient, productive and profitable.”
Applications for this grant were coupled with strong support from area manufacturers through the Grow North Economic Development Corporation.
In July, Nicolet was awarded a $750,000 state grant to build on the Industrial Maintenance Fundamentals Certificate and provide tuition assistance.
