Members of the Tomahawk VFW Post 2687 had a check presentation earlier this week for the National Honor flight.
A handful of veterans collected money over Fire School and Fall Ride weekends here in Tomahawk. On Wednesday a check for just over $3,000 was presented to 1965 THS graduate and Honor Flight Co-Founder Jim Campbell. In addition to helping found the program, Campbell is a veteran himself, a retired Marine Lt. Colonel.
The initial honor flight took off from Springfield, Ohio with 12 veterans bound for Washington, back in 2005. Seven years later over 100,000 veterans from across the country have taken part in the trip and the honor banquet and USO-Type Show, the night before. Here in Wisconsin more than 5,000 veterans have been honored with the journey.
