Marathon County sheriff’s officials have identified the victim of a fatal hunting accident.
Lt. Dale Wisnewski says 50-year-old Steve Raskie was hunting by himself Monday and when he failed to return home or respond to text messages, family members became concerned. They started to search for the Town of Wausau man and found his body in a wooded area not far from his home.
He was at the base of the tree where a hunting stand was located.
Initial reports indicate Raskie was found shot in the jaw by the bolt of his crossbow.
As hunting picks up in the next few months, all hunters are reminded to use caution with firearms, bow and arrows and using tree stands.
