(AP) A Wittenberg man accused of killing his father entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease, which the court accepted.
The defense for Joshua Johnson called two doctors to the stand yesterday in Shawano County Circuit Court. They testified Johnson suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, saying Johnson told them he was hearing voices and getting messages from his television screen telling him to kill his father.
A criminal complaint says Johnson shot, stabbed and beat his 53-year-old father, Donald Johnson, last February.
Prosecutors initially recommended he be institutionalized for life. The defense recommends he be institutionalized, treated and released. Another hearing will be held after social services reviews the case.
