A judge has ordered a trial for a Wausau woman accused of killing her boyfriend’s dog.
Twenty-year-old Sean Janas appeared in court yesterday on charges of felony animal mistreatment and misdemeanor poisoning an animal. Janas waived her right to a preliminary hearing, and the judge then found enough evidence for a trial.
Prosecutors say Janas poisoned and tortured her boyfriend’s dog, a 4 year old German shepherd-Labrador mix that died in June.
Protesters gathered outside the courthouse, many carried signs and brought their dogs to show support the animal.
The public defender declined comment, saying the case is in the “very preliminary stages.” Janas is scheduled to enter a plea in November, and remains in the Marathon County Jail.
