Damage was contained to a single floor at a Merrill house fire yesterday morning.
Firefighters were called to the structure fire on East 4th Street in the city of Merrill at just after 7 yesterday. Personnel arrived to find smoke showing from the 2nd floor of the residence; they confirmed that all parties were safely out of the structure.
Personnel quickly entered the structure and extinguished the fire which was contained to a second floor bedroom. Smoke and water damage was limited to the second floor of the residence.
Merrill EMS personnel evaluated a patient on the scene for smoke inhalation and a burn. The patient refused transport at the time, but was later taken by private vehicle to Good Samaritan Hospital in Merrill. No other injuries were reported.
Firefighters believe a candle may have started the fire however the cause is still under investigation.
