Ministry Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander has welcomed a new Medical Physicist to the James Beck Cancer Center.
Peter Heiberger, a Chilton native, will join the staff from his previous position at a consulting firm located in Arkansas.
A medical physicist work inan applied branch of physics concerned with the application of the concepts and methods to the diagnosis and treatment of human disease. It is allied with medical electronics, bioengineering, and health physics.
Medical physicists contribute to the effectiveness of radiological imaging procedures by assuring radiation safety and helping to develop improved imaging techniques. They contribute to development of therapeutic techniques, collaborate with radiation oncologists, and monitor equipment and procedures.
Heiberger received his Master of Science from UNLV after completing his bachelors at UW Eau Claire. He says, “In my scope of practice, the ultimate goal and guiding light to all treatment methods stems from the concern and betterment of patient care and satisfaction.”
