Opening weekend of the gun hunt in Lincoln County mirrored statewide trends showing an increase in harvest.
The preliminary numbers released by the DNR earlier this week showed the state harvest was up 19.7% including an increase of 24 percent for bucks.
Here in Lincoln County the preliminary results include a 14% overall increase in harvest and 21% increase in buck registrations. The raw numbers include 1,528 deer harvested, 873 bucks and 655 does. Oneida County had a decrease, largely due to a drop in doe registrations. Waupaca County once again lead the way with more than 5,000 deer harvested.
In releasing the numbers, Tom Hauge, director of DNR wildlife management says, “We want to remind folks that these preliminary numbers come from a staff call-around to deer registration stations.”
He says the final opening weekend tally will likely be somewhat larger, when all the registration stubs are entered into the data base as the season wraps up.
