Now that the calendars have flipped to December several northwoods communities are reminding residents of winter ordinances.
In an effort to make the sidewalks as safe as possible for residents, the city of Tomahawk will be enforcing the sidewalk shoveling ordinance. This requires sidewalks be shoveled within 24 hours of a snowfall.
If the sidewalk is not shoveled by the following the day, the city will do it and the property owner will be charged the removal expenses. In addition there will also be an escalating fine starting at $25.
If a sidewalk has been shoveled and is still slippery an abrasive will need to be applied. One of the leading injuries during winter months are slips caused by icy or unshoveled sidewalks.
In Merrill, Police Chief Ken Neff is reminding residents that winter parking restrictions in the city of Merrill are now in effect. The parking restrictions include no parking the street from 1am to 6am. Chief Neff also says there is odd/even parking during the rest of the time. Parking is allowed on the odd side of the street on odd numbered days and the even side of the street on even number days.
