An Illinois woman has died in a Vilas County Snowmobile crash on New Year’s Eve.

The woman was driving the sled in St. Germain. Investigators believe she missed a turn, left the trail and went down an embankment.

She was transported to Howard Young Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, likely due to internal injuries related to the crash. The woman’s name is currently being withheld pending the notification of family.

Officials believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
