03 Jan News

A former Northland Pines middle school teacher was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

Michael Wang of Florence, was sentenced yesterday in Vilas County court on two counts of possession of child pornography. In addition to the prison time, the 47 year old will also receive 5 years of extended supervision and a $5,000 fine.

Wang had pleaded guilty to the two charges late last year. In exchange, 8 additional counts were dismissed but read in.

Monitoring software detected inappropriate chat sessions with minor girls, some of which occurred in the math teacher’s classroom. School officials also discovered two flash drives containing child pornography in a filing cabinet in the room.

Assistant Attorney General David Maas acted as a special prosecutor for Vilas county in the case.
