Last week nomination papers were due for the upcoming spring elections, and there will be some local races on the ballot.
Based on those papers turned in, two people are seeking district 1 alderperson in the city of Tomahawk. Incumbent Michael Loka will face challenger Clareanne Stocker in that race. For districts 2 and 3, incumbents Jim Graeber and Jeff Kahle do not have opponents in their respective races.
Meanwhile, in Merrill, their school board race will be competitive with 7 people seeking 3 seats. Incumbents Chuck Bolder and Lin Kautza are seeking re-election. Also on the ballot are challengers Norbert “Nubs” Ashbeck, Vicki Lindstrom, John Shull, Linda Yingling and Jeffrey Verdoorn. Current board member Meridith Prebeg is not seeking re-election.
The primary for the spring elections will take place next month, with the general election held in June.
