With the start of a new legislative session, several northwoods representatives from both chambers were sworn in for the first time.
Republican Tom Tiffany of Hazelhurst took his oath as a first time state senator from the 12th district. Tiffany said, ““I am very humbled by this opportunity and look forward to working hard to serve my constituents.” He added that his immediate focus this session is reforming mining laws which he feels will lead to job creation and growing the economy.
Tiffany was formally a representative from the 35th district. Taking over that seat is Mary Czaja who was also sworn in yesterday. She said, ““I look forward to bringing our message of fiscal conservatism and responsible government to Madison.” She, like Tiffany, wants to improve job creation and growing the state’s economy.
The two are each republicans who now hold a 17-15 and 59-39 advantage in the senate and assembly respectively.
