DWD Allocated Nearly $3 Million for Training

14 Jan News

In the past six months, the Department of Workforce Development has allocated nearly $3 million across the state including nearly a half million in North Central Wisconsin.

Late last week, Governor Scott Walker announced $1.2 million in additional employment and training assistance to help approximately 1,600 dislocated workers across the state learn new job skills.

He said, “Wisconsin employers, manufacturers in particular, have jobs to fill, but say they can’t find workers with the right skills.”

Since July, the money has been distributed to nine workforce development areas including the North Central Region, who will receive $425,000. Employers receiving funding include: Harley-Davidson-Tomahawk, Federal Mogul, Fiskars, West Asset Management, and SuperValu-Spencer.

Walker says, “Federal funding will help meet their needs by providing additional employment and training assistance to dislocated workers, so that they can gain new skills and pursue the good jobs that are now available, as well as those we are working to help employers create.”
