Michigan’s Malcolm Cartier fended off a deep field to claim the 50th annual Amsoil Eagle River World Championship Snowmobile Derby yesterday.
The 23 year old native of Marine City, Michigan, Chartier led 29 of the 30 laps in Sunday afternoon’s championship race. Jordan Wahl took second place in the race and Matt Schulz clocked in third. The top four finishers all came in within a second of each other.
The race featured four former champions with a total of 8 titles, including defending champion Nick Van Strydonk. According to a race recap, Van Strydonk’s sled bogged down in the restart after 10 lap falling to the back of the pack.
By the time the race ended, Van Strydonk had worked his way back up to 8th place.
