Several Northwoods teachers were among those recognized by the Department of Public Instruction for achieving National Board Certification.
This year, 80 educators in Wisconsin earned the credential through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards . There are now 876 educators teaching in Wisconsin schools who hold national certification.
Area recipients include Michelle Flohr of Crescent Elementary in Rhinelander, James Bauman of Riverview Elementary in Wausau, and John Hayes and Faith Schneider both of Northland Pines.
The assessments are reviewed by trained teachers in each certificate area to evaluate how well the educator has demonstrated advanced teaching knowledge, skills, and practices.
The assessments include four portfolio entries that feature teaching practice and six constructed response exercises that assess content knowledge.
