Special Olympics Team USA Coach Bonnie Kahn continues to give us updates on her experiences in South Korea at the World Winter Olympics.
When we last heard from Coach Kahn, the team had just arrived near Seoul following a nearly 20 hour trip. The Opening Ceremonies for the games were scheduled for Tuesday, with the games set to begin as well.
Prior to that the athletes have been experiencing South Korea, including a folk village. Coach Kahn described it as a Korean version of Klondike days in Eagle River with a history of the country depicted in different settings. She said it was very tourist orientated but educational.
One area had small wooden sleds and children sat on them and used big ice picks to make them move and yes of course Coach Kahn tried them out! “They were a blast!”
As ambassadors, the coaches and athletes also attended classrooms explaining what the Special Olympics and World Games were all about.
Kahn is coaching the cross country ski athletes at the games. Team USA has more than 100 athletes, including 3 from Wisconsin.
