Late last month, Pelican Elementary students were honored for a recent fund-raising effort.
A representative from the American Red Cross visited the second and third graders to present them with a certificate after the students collected coins for Hurricane Sandy.
Each year around the holidays, the students host a change challenge in lieu of giving each other and their teachers a gift. This promotes the message “it is better to give than receive.” The students then select where their coins go.
This year they chose to give to the American Red Cross, specifically to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. They raised almost $500 between the two grades in one week.
