The staff at the Marathon County Jail will have an additional resource as a fallout from an attack last week.
Officials say that corrections officers will be carrying Tasers as a way to create a safer work environment. Prior to this the officers in the jail carried OC spray, better known as pepper spray.
Just over a week ago, an inmate attacked two of the corrections officers. One officer was punched in the face and remained in intensive care as of early this week following those injuries. A second officer also received injuries while trying to restrain the inmate following the initial attack.
In a previous press release from the Sheriff’s office regarding those attacks, they stated that having a Taser likely would not have affected the situation.
The second corrections officer did use his spray while trying to restrain the inmate.
