The Tomahawk Police Department has chosen the leader of their new K-9 unit.
Current Officer Ryan Picl was selected for the handler position in the department according to Police Chief Al Elvins. Officer Picl was travel to Longford, Kansas next month where he will train with the canine. Following the completion of that training, he and his partner are expected to assume full patrol duties in early June.
The six year veteran of the Tomahawk Police Force says he is “honored to have been chosen for the this position and is looking forward to working and training with (the dog).”
The Tomahawk Police Department kicked off a fundraising campaign earlier this year in effort to create the new K9 unit. As of earlier last month the various donations had totaled more than $30,000 which will go towards the dog, training, and future costs of the k9 unit.
