Coming up this weekend National, State and Local law enforcement agencies will be holding another of their prescription drug drop-off events.
Working in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration, law enforcement agencies will collect expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs free and anonymously. These drop offs allow people to safely dispose of their medications.
During last fall’s event, Americans turned in 244 tons of prescription drugs bringing the overall 5 year total to more than 2 million pounds of pills nationwide. This initiative addresses vital public health concerns, as medicines in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse or abuse.
Officials say a majority of abused prescriptions are obtained from friends and families
Area drop offs will include here in Tomahawk at the Police Department, The Rhinelander Police Department, Three Lakes Town Hall and the Nokomis Fire Department. Those are all available from 10 until 2 this coming Saturday. Meanwhile Minocqua will host a drop-off from 9-1 at the Marshfield Clinic Pharmacy.
Unfortunately injectables and syringes cannot be accepted at this time.
