Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department Reports

Two more grass fires were reported in Lincoln County this past week. Deputies assisted in both incidents. The first occurred last Monday in the Town of Bradley on Bay Mill Rd. The DNR and a Tomahawk Firefighter assisted. The second fire was reported Tuesday evening on Forest Drive in the Town of Merrill. A neighbor reported conducting a controlled burn just prior. Here in north central Wisconsin we remain in the Moderate Risk Zone on the DNR’s burning restrictions.

Slippery roads last Friday caused issues for Lincoln County Drivers. During the morning hours deputies responded to 5 crashes and 5 vehicle slide-offs due to those icy covered roads. No injuries were reported. Two people did require assistance after their vehicle rolled and struck a power pole causing wires to fall on the vehicle. in the town of Schley.

Four Merrill residents were cited for various violations after an investigation into a suspicious vehicle. An off-duty deputy was at a town of Scott gas station late Saturday morning. An occupant in the next vehicle was drinking a can of beer. Two additional deputies arrived and spoke with those involved. Two Merrill girls, ages 19 and 15 were cited for underage drinking. A 23 year old Merrill man was cited for having an open intoxicant in the vehicle. The driver, a 19 year old was taken into custody for violating the state’s absolute sobriety law while driving with a minor. He was taken to jail and then released to a responsible party.

A 31 year old Tomahawk man was arrested early yesterday morning following a disturbance call in the Town of Wilson. Deputies responded to an establishment at just before 1. The man was brought to the jail on charges of disorderly conduct and battery and was released later in the day after posting cash bond.

Six people reported striking deer this past week, along with the first confirmed car-bear crash on Lincoln County road ways this year. The bear left under its own power prior to the deputy’s arrival.
