Our region’s state senator Tom Tiffany is calling on the Wisconsin Congressional Delegation to look into the Environmental Protection Agency.
Tiffany questions why the EPA would potentially issue a 5-year waste water discharge permit to the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa. He cites reports saying that the Bad River Band failed to report or violated the Clean Water Act multiple times.
The tribe has been an opponent of legislation streamlining mining regulations in Wisconsin, which Tiffany has supported.
The EPA previously granted the tribe authority to set the water quality standards within the watershed on their lands. The EPA’s public comment submission period for discharge permits closes today.
