Inmate Pleads Not Guilty in Jail Attack

07 May News

A Marathon County Jail inmate charged with causing injuries to two guards pleaded not guilty by reason of mental defect.

Frederick Morris had his arraignment yesterday where he entered the plea. He is being charged with a single count of aggravated battery and 2 counts of battery by a prisoner.

A doctor will be assigned by the court to make an assessment of Morris’ mental state.

His charges stem from an incident in the Marathon County Jail in March where he is accused of attacking 2 members of the staff. One of the corrections officers was briefly hospitalized for treatment, while the other remains in the hospital more than a month after the attack.

Morris has his next court appearance scheduled for June 7. He remains jailed in Lincoln County at this time.
