An aerial firework likely caused the most recent grass fire in Lincoln County.
Yesterday’s fire in the town of Birch was called in to 911 at just before 2:30. The property was located in the 6000 block of County Rd. H. Firefighters from the Town of Russell, along with the Lincoln County Sheriff and the DNR responded.
The first on the scene discovered more than an acre had already likely burned. By the time firefighters were able to get the blaze under control more than 4 acres of grass burned. Crews were on the scene for over and hour and no injuries were reported.
The homeowner reported he had lit off the firework just prior to the fire starting.
Fires continue to be in issue with the dry conditions throughout much of the state. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s report included 5 fires this past week in Corning, Skanawan, Pine River and two in the Town of Birch.
