Another group of veterans from central Wisconsin head to the nation’s capital today as part of the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.
This morning’s flight includes 99 Korean War veterans, who will visit the various memorials in Washington DC.
Expected on today’s trip is Jim Likwarz. As we told you last week, Local Boy Scout Troop 548 based in Tomahawk surprised him by sponsoring his flight. The boy scouts raised the money to send him on the trip becoming the first boy scout troop to sponsor a veteran.
Organizers say this is the 12th mission since their initial flight back in 2010. The previous 11 have transported more than 1,000 veterans including 808 WWII, 218 Korean and 5 Vietnam veterans. Missions 13 and 14 are slated for September.
Today’s flight will return back to Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee at 9:30 and they encourage people to welcome them back home.
