As we told you Tuesday, the Rhinelander High School Mock Trial team placed 24th in the National Trial Championships. Several team members were also recognized in the competition.
In all, 6 team members were tabbed as “Star Performers” in one or more rounds. Matt Anderson and Amber Toboyek were named Outstanding Attorneys, while Lauren Sexton, Elisha Sheffer and Amber Sheth were Outstanding Witnesses. Lydia O’Brien received both honors.
As far as the team finish, coaches noted that some of it is the luck of the draw. The final results of the tournament showed a 2-1 margin of victory for the defense. Due to the matching system the Rhinelander team drew the plaintiff side 3 times including the decisive fourth and final round.
The Hodags were attempting to bring the National Championship back to Rhinelander having won the competition in 1989. While the team was surely disappointed, Coach Kathy Vick-Martini says, “All of the students delivered their strongest performances of the year. I could not be more proud of them.”
