A motorist died in a two vehicle accident north of Tomahawk yesterday afternoon.
At several minutes before 2:00, the Oneida County Sheriff’s office received a call of a reckless driving complaint. The vehicle was traveling northbound in the Town of Nokomis on highway 51 near Highway 8. A few minutes later, another 911 call was phoned in about a traffic crash involving the vehicle in question and a semi. The calls were just 6 minutes apart according to the sheriff’s office news release.
The initial investigation indicates that the northbound automobile crossed over the center-line and struck the trailer of a southbound semi 3 miles north of Highway 8. The driver and lone occupant of the automobile passed away from injuries sustained in the crash. The name of the occupant is being withheld pending notification of family.
The Northbound lanes of the Highway were closed for some time as crews investigated and cleared the scene. Multiple law enforcement, fire departments and EMS responded to the accident scene. The Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Office and Sheriff’s Office are both investigating.
