The Merrill Fire Department has received a large grant to help replace several defibrillators.
The Department announced it was selected by FEMA to receive an Assistance to Firefighters Grant. The $100,000 grant was earmarked specifically for the purchase of 3 cardiac monitor/ defibrillators.
The Merrill Department sought funding to replace three aging or obsolete units. The new units will go in each of the paramedic ambulances in the fleet. The grant money allows industry standard equipment, featuring several new technologies.
The new equipment will cost just over the $100,000, so the remaining 10% will be covered by local funding.
Department officials say that over the years they have received various grants totaling more than $200,000, but this is the single largest grant they have been awarded through the AFG program.
