Unemployment figures were released for the state earlier this week, and northwoods counties continue their downward trend.
The department of workforce Development released the May figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Wednesday. Statewide 70 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties saw that decrease.
Here in Lincoln County the preliminary unemployment rate fell 0.9 to 8.7 last month. That number has dropped in 4 of the past five months. The May 2013 number is similar to May of last year.
Forest, Oneida, Vilas and Langlade Counties also saw large decreases last month. The Northern counties do still comprise some of the highest 15% in the state. St. Croix County has passed several others to have the lowest rate at 4.4% while Menominee County has the highest at 13.8%.
