Two Northern Wisconsin Communities were among five awarded state grants for site assessments.
Both Price County and the village of Rothschild will receive the grants from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. The money is tabbed to assist in environmental assessment and mitigation.
Price County has been awarded a $36,700 Site Assessment Grant to assist in the improvement of a former commercial site in Fifield. The grant will reimburse the county for a soil and groundwater environmental assessment and remedial action plan The county acquired the property in 2010 and has cleared it of debris and structures. The Town of Fifield has expressed interest in the property for public information site, a visitor center or green space.
The Village of Rothschild has been awarded a $32,500 Site Assessment Grant to assist in the improvement of a former gas station location. The grant will reimburse the village for storage tank removal and demolition activities taking place at the site. The village plans to facilitate redevelopment of the underutilized commercial property.
Other municipalities receiving funding include:Racine, Milwaukee and DeForest.
