In his first week of work, the Merrill Area Public Schools new district superintendent is getting right to work.
Walter Leipart officially took over his new role in the MAPS district on Monday. He was named to the position back in February.
In some of his first duties he met with board members, district employees and community members while also sending out a message to staff.
Leipart comes from Phillips where he previously served as their superintendent for 5 years. He noted the Merrill area in helping to ease the transition saying, “Since my move…my family and I have been overwhelmed by the hospitality we have been shown.”
Leipart takes over for Don Stevens who had been serving as an interim superintendent for the past year.
It was a busy spring for superintendents in the northwoods as Tomahawk, Antigo and Rhinelander also have new leaders.
