Starting today the Oneida County Fair gets underway at Pioneer Park in Rhinelander.
The annual event will run this evening through Sunday afternoon. The free fair features activities, exhibits, rides, food and entertainment.
This year, organizers have announced several new attractions, headlines by an Ugly Lamp Competition. Contestants have been cleaning attics and scouring rummage sales looking for that lamp that will be called the ugliest. Kids will enjoy the “UB the Band” experience. Other new events include Friday Fish Fry at the Fair, Flea Market Friday and a craft show on Sunday.
Just like the fair began more than 110 years ago, Gene Sheppard will be on hand with the mythical hodag.
Finally the fair will feature music, tonight’s acts include the Northwood Brass Quintet, and a pair of rock bands. Critic will take the stage first, followed by Rose Canyon Band.
