Local law enforcement agencies will join the rest of the state in a crackdown on drunken driving.
Starting today and running through Labor day police, sheriff’s and the state patrol are participating in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign.
The agencies are receiving grants to conduct extra patrol targeting OWI enforcement. The goal is to reach Zero in Wisconsin, referring to the number of preventable traffic deaths. According to information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, in the USA there is a drunk driving fatality every hour.
The Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, who announced their participation, says, “Since May of (this year) there has been 5 fatal vehicle crashes in Vilas County alone that could have been prevented.”
Here in Tomahawk, the Police Department has also announced their participation.
