A Wausau School has been selected for the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program.
The state Department of Public Instruction announced the list of 25 schools set to participate in the Voucher Program, which includes Wausau Newman. The 25 schools receiving the most applications were selected and Wausau Newman received 94 twelvth most. Appleton Xavier received the most at 193.
Statewide 2,400 students applied, more than five times the 500 student cap put in place. Of those students, nearly 1,400 previously attended private schools, while another 69 were home schooled.
Each of the chosen schools will have a drawing selecting 10 students. The remaining 250 spots will be randomly drawn. According to state law, schools must submit documentation of their certificate of occupancy and meet program financial requirements by Sept. 1.
