Coming up tomorrow Rhinelander will celebrate one of the most popular foods around…the Potato.
The city will be hosting the first annual Potatofest. Organizers sought to host a community event that honors and celebrates the strong history of potato agriculture and research in the Rhinelander area. In the lead up to the Potatofest, Artstart in Rhinelander has featured a potato education exhibit the past month.
Tomorrow’s event will highlight potato growing, local agriculture, and bring awareness to the public on how vital it is to the area and economy. The event will have activities such as a couch potato race, potato sack race and speed potato peeling. Of course there will be plenty of eating contests for both french fries and mashed potatoes, along with numerous categories for best potato dishes.
The event at the RiverWalk Centre on South Courtney St. runs throughout the day starting with a potato pancake breakfast at 8:00.
