Wisconsin Public Service has reached an agreement to pay fines for violating its air pollution permit in Rothschild.
The approved judgment against WPS requires a payment of $80,000 for the violations at the Weston Coal Power Plants.
According to the civil complaint filed in Marathon County Circuit Court, WPSC submitted reports to the DNR, indicating that the plant exceeded its carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide emissions, and operated without a required control device.
These violations occurred in 2008 and 2009.
Companies that have the potential to emit large quantities of pollutants are required to obtain an air pollution control permits from DNR and minimize those emissions by using control equipment, preventative maintenance, and abatement plans to reduce releases.
The settlement was approved by Marathon County Judge Jill N. Falstad on Wednesday.
