A large storm system passed through the area last night leaving plenty of rain, but no significant damage reported at this time.
The thunderstorms began passing through north central Wisconsin in the eight o’ clock hour. The heaviest rains in the Tomahawk area came at around 9:15. Here at the studio we received just under an inch of precipitation. Much of the area received between an inch and two. There are reports of area east of Rhinelander near Monico receiving in excess of 3 inches during those few hours.
There was also quarter inch hail confirmed by trained weather spotters in Prentice.
With the strong winds and excessive rains, there were also reports of power outages across the northwoods. At its peak there were in excess of 4,000 people without power including 750 in the Tomahawk area at around 11pm. By sunrise those numbers were in the hundreds, mainly in the Crandon, Rhinelander and White Lake areas.
The overnight tornado watch and flood advisories have now been lifted.
