Tonight’s special Merrill Common Council meeting will include the consideration of an agreement to redevelop the vacant Hurd property.
The 33 acre vacant manufacturing lot is located on South Prospect St. As part of the agreement, Merrill Area Development Corporation is seeking to purchase the property and the city would provide a $200,000 loan, payable over 10 years.
The resolution says 35 manufacturing jobs would be created during initial redevelopment, with 40 additional jobs created after a year and the potential for more in the future.
The redevelopment of the Hurd property would include some building demolition and environmental remediation work. It does include a city easement along the Wisconsin River for a pedestrian/bike trail.
As part of the agreement, the city of Merrill would also purchase a five-acre parcel off North Pine Ridge Avenue from MADC for $100,000.
That meeting is at 5:30 tonight at Merrill’s City Hall.
