Law enforcement officials are once again reminding residents to be cautious about scam attempts after another Lincoln County resident was targeted the past week.
This particular scam targets the elderly. A young male will call and claim to be a grandchild stuck in a foreign jail such as Canada or Mexico. The scammer claims to need a large amount of money to get out, and asks the victim not to tell anyone.
This past week, a Lincoln County man was called at his home and the scammer claimed he was a grandchild stuck in a Mexican jail. The grandfather wired $1,900, and later discovered it was a scam when he got a second call looking for more money.
When Deputies investigated it was too late to recover the money which had gone to Haiti. Anyone contacted regarding a relative being in a non-local jail should first call your local law enforcement agency.
