The Merrill Area Public School District Board of Education will meet this evening to consider moving their 5th grade students into Prairie River Middle School.
The recommendation comes based on current space needs at Washington and Jefferson elementary schools. Moving the 5th graders was recommended because it did not require significant program changes or construction.
District Administrator Walter Leipart, says, “The recommendation made by the administration to move fifth grade to the middle school takes into consideration all students, and especially those who would be most impacted in the first year.”
That first year would be in 2014-2015. The recommendation does not include the Maple Grove Charter School, which would continue to house classes from kindergarten through grade five.
Tonight’s board meeting begins at 5:30.
