Just over a week into the 2013 wolf season, one of the zones has already approached its quota.
The DNR has announced that zone 2 will close this afternoon at 3:00pm. As of the last update, hunters had registered 26 wolves in Zone 2 which had a quota of 28.
Zone 2 comprises the western portion of Lincoln County then extends north and east encompassing 8 additional counties including Vilas and Oneida.
The overall statewide harvest at this point is 97 animals, with an overall quota of 251.
If those quotas are not reached, the season is scheduled to run through February.
Hunters or trappers are responsible for checking the status of the zone in which they are hunting. The DNR announces at least 24 hours in advance of any closures.
