Vilas County Tourism will receive a nearly $40,000 grant to help promote the region.
The Joint Effort Marketing or JEM grant was presented by Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett, and the money will target travel and silent sport multi-use recreational trails.
This project seeks to inform travelers about the non-motorized year-round trail opportunities available in Vilas County. A comprehensive and fully integrated trail map, including GPS coordinates, and mobile app will highlight the more than 50 land and water based trails in the county.
Klett says, “We’re thrilled to support this collaborative project to showcase the tremendous recreational trails in Vilas County and build a lasting brand for their area.”
Vilas County estimates the project will generate an economic impact of $356,400 from traveler spending at area hotels, restaurants and stores.
This year, the Department of Tourism funded 56 JEM projects, issuing nearly $1.2 million dollars. JEM grant funds are available to non-profit organizations for the promotion of Wisconsin tourism events and destinations.
