Law enforcement agencies across the country will be participating in a take back of prescription drugs this weekend.
The Tomahawk Police Department will once again be participating in the event from 10 until 2 tomorrow.
Tomahawk Police Chief Al Elvins says, “Prescription drugs are abused at an astronomical rate. This is a chance to keep unused or expired prescription drugs from getting into the wrong hands.”
In the April collection, Americans turned in 371 tons of prescription drugs at the nearly 6,000 drop off sites. The Tomahawk Police Department says that they collected 40 pounds in that most recent collection.
In addition to the Tomahawk Police Department, other agencies holding collections on Saturday from 10-2 include the Merrill and Rhinelander Police Depts.; at the Three Lakes Town Hall; and the Nokomis Fire Department. A Minocqua collection will be held at the Marshfield Clinic pharmacy from 9-1.
