After some lengthy presentations at the Lincoln County Board meeting, the supervisors passed several resolutions and ordinances with minimal discussion.
One of the items that did generate discussion was setting the pay for elected officials in the county. Those positions included the clerk of courts, the coroner and the sheriff. The Clerk of Courts and Coroner positions had a 1% increase.
Because a previous Sheriff had declined any pay raises, that salary has been depressed. In an effort to correct this discrepancy, the proposal gave the Sheriff a 12% bump in 2015. In their research they discovered that the Sheriff in Lincoln County received the lowest pay of the surround counties of Oneida, Langlade and Taylor.
While some of the board members were not necessarily against adjusting the pay scale, they questioned the methodology in coming up with the figure. After an alternate raise amendment failed to gain a second, the board ultimately passed this measure with a 16-1 vote.
